June 7th in history:

On June 7th, 1892, Benjamin Harrison became the first U.S. president to watch a baseball game.

By the 1970s, you didn’t have to watch a ball game or another favorite show on TV at the same time it was broadcast, thanks to the invention of the video-cassette recorder. Sony introduced its Betamax brand VCR on June 7th, 1975.

The Betamax came along too late for fans of two popular variety shows of the ’60s and ’70s: “The Dean Martin Show” and “This Is Tom Jones.” June 7th is the birthday of both Martin (1917) and Jones (1940).

Real estate records show that Tom Jones and Dean Martin are both former owners of a house in Bel Air, California, that also was owned by actor Nicolas Cage.  Cage was married briefly to Lisa Marie Presley, whose childhood home of Graceland is a tourist attraction in Memphis.  On June 7th, 1982, Lisa Marie’s mother Priscilla Presley opened the home of Elvis to the public. .
